So I’m pretty sure that we’ve all heard of Xiaomi’s Pocophone F1 at this point, and I’m genuinely impressed that Xiaomi can make a phone this but not surprised, because we have seen them done this in the past before, one example would be their mi mix 2s which was about $520-530 USD which included wireless charging and came with 6 gigs of RAM as the base model. Although there are a lot of pros to buying this phone, that does not mean this phone does not come with it’s list of its short comings. So sit back and relax as I explain to you why the Pocophone F1 may or may not be for you.
Cons
Reason number 1, no NFC, which means no wireless transactions, thus, no Android pay. A lot of people use NFC every day of their lives to pay for things, in my opinion, I won’t bother me that much, because I use cash to pay for things, but just note that you won’t have NFC when you purchase this phone.
Reason number 2, mediocre cameras, the cameras on the Pocophone F1 aren’t bad, but in no way are they outstanding either, their just mediocre. I guess in this department, you get what you pay for. The Pocophone has dual cameras, but the second one doesn’t really have that much of a purpose, it’s just for depth information. (The tech specs for this phone will be down below) In the right environment, you can get some pretty good pictures despite the mediocre camera though, but I wouldn’t take that many low light photos though.
Reason number 3, the insanely ugly huge notch. We all probably hate the notch, unless, ya know, ur crazy. It cuts into your videos and just gets in the way when your watching videos on YouTube, no matter how much you have it, you probably won’t forget the notch is there when your watching your videos in landscape. Let’s just be happy that they didn’t add saggin’ ass tit… Ahem* need to be more professional, a huge ass bathtub to their display (cough cough** Google don’t do this to your pixel 3XL)
It’s ugly unusable software, well first of all, we can all agree and establish that MiUi sucks a**. When you get your phone, I seriously recommend you to download lean lancher from the play store on your phone, it’s essentially (see what I did there :D) a pixel lancher.
PS: For those people who are completely addicted to fornite mobile for some reason, this device is not supported.
Other minor things about the Pocophone, no ip certification, and is hard to get for $300, (it isn’t available in the US and is only available in China, so you need to pay shipping, and tax, added along with the fact that the US government not being a an Chinese phone manufacturers) also they have 2 decent speakers at the bottom of the phone, it’s build quality, it’s polycarbonate, which is a fancy way of saying hardened plastic) which leaves the headphone jack in a terrible possition on the phone, on the top. It’s bad because it makes using the fingerprint sensor harder to instatly unlock as opposed to having the headphone jack at the bottom.
Pros
Now your probably yelling at me, or your phone, Josh, where them pro at boi. Well there are so many pros that it put weighs the cons by a long margin.
Reason number 1, it has USB-C and a headphone jack. Although the headphone jack makes it a hassle to unlock your phone while taking out your pocket with 1 hand, at least it has one. USB-C has faster transfer speeds, and is reversible, thus having faster power delivery, and lowering the chance of breaking your charging port like what microphone is would sometimes do.
Reason number 2, Bluetooth 5.0, this allows multiple Bluetooth devices to be connected and used at once.
Reason number 3, it’s huge 4000 mAH battery, it can last more than a day for most people for more than a day.
Reason number 4, it’s 6.99 in full HD 1920 x 1080 resolution display, it’s at a higher resolution than the iPhoneXR’s 1792 x 826 resolution “liquid redna display.” Although the display on the Pocophone isn’t the best 1080p panel/display in the world, you can at least watch 1080p video. I’m only assuming the reason why apple makes it’s display known is because I’m only assuming that they made the most color accurate or as they probably think they did LCD display, because I noticed they never really bragged about the resolution that much. Ok back on the Pocophone again, it’s a pretty good screen for the price.
Reason number 5, it has the powerful snapdragon 845 paired with the adreno 630. Just in case you didn’t know the snapdragon 845 is, it’s Qualcomm’s latest chipset that’s buildt on a 10nm (nanometer) process imbedded inside the SOC, (system on a chip) it contains your CPU, GPU, RAM, and ROM.
Reason number 6, it has Corning gorilla glass. Just in case you didn’t know, Corning is a company, and Xiaomi never said anything about what version they were using, in jerryrigseverything’s video on the Pocophone F1, you can see clearly that the screen scratched on a level 6 on the moahs scale of hardness which is where glass would scratch. Here’s his video. (https://youtu.be/IXLvNrUTUYw)
Reason number 7, it has Android Oreo 8.1, that’s the lastest version of Android currently that not beta software, and running beta software isn’t really a good idea on your phone because it’s full of bugs, but it’s fun to test, it’s unfortunate that you can’t test Android pie.
Reason number 8, it has micro SD explanation, it comes in hand when your want to add more storage to your phone.
My thoughts and opinions
Personally I think that the Pocophone is really good for $300, and maybe around $400 in the US, it’s a really good value for the price, but is it the phone you should really but. In the US, no, I don’t think you should get it unless you want the lastest and greatest from Qualcomm. I think you should instead get the Moto z2 force which is now on sale for $400 which knocks the Pocophone F1 out the water because although it has the processor from last year, it was the flagship from last year, and it also had flagship cameras, and a 1440p screen, work Moto shatter ahold and a aluminum back instead of a plastic one, also let’s not forget about Moto mods too. I think for $100 more, depending on the person you are, and if he headphone jack matters to you, you should definitely get the z2 force now instead of the Pocophone F1.
